Services
Plumbing and Water
Plumbing and water services cover the equipment that receives, stores, heats and distributes water, together with outlets, fittings and protection measures. The work ranges from repairing an individual leak to investigating pressure, planning hot-water improvements or organising water-hygiene actions across an estate.

Overview
Good scoping connects the symptom with the system. A washroom fault may involve one fitting; repeated pressure loss may involve demand, distribution or pumping. We establish the affected area, operating conditions and work required before agreeing the repair or improvement. Drainage beyond the plumbing connection is covered by Drainage and Wastewater.
Individual services
Commercial Plumbing — Investigations, repairs and alterations to the plumbing serving working premises.
Emergency Plumbing — Urgent leaks and loss of water services, with safe isolation and a defined repair plan.
Leak Detection — Trace unexplained water loss before deciding where to open up or replace pipework.
Hot and Cold Water Systems — Distribution, storage and circulation assessed as a connected building system.
Toilets and Sanitaryware — Washroom fixtures, associated fittings and repairs planned around continued use.
Booster Pumps — Pressure-boosting equipment, controls and performance under changing building demand.
Water Heaters and Calorifiers — Hot-water generation and storage, with attention to demand, controls and connected systems.
TMV Servicing and Testing — Thermostatic mixing valves and the checks relevant to their outlets and users.
Backflow Prevention and RPZ Valves — Protection against reverse flow, including specialist requirements for RPZ assemblies.
Water Hygiene and Legionella — Risk-led water management, monitoring, maintenance and follow-up actions.
Legionella Risk Assessments — Survey water-system risks, review controls and produce practical prioritised actions.
Water Sampling and Testing — Sampling planned around a defined question, sampling points and interpretation of results.
Cold-Water Storage Tank Cleaning and Disinfection — Tank condition, cleaning access and return-to-service arrangements.
Water-System Flushing and Disinfection — Defined sections of the system treated through a documented flushing or disinfection scope.
Water Treatment — Treatment selected for the water characteristics, system duty and equipment requirements.
Which service do you need?
Start with the effect on the building. For escaping water, identify the affected area and safe access to isolation. For low pressure, explain whether the problem affects one outlet, a floor or the whole property, and whether it occurs at peak use. For a hygiene concern, supply the risk assessment, monitoring records and the exact finding needing attention.
An inspection, a repair and an ongoing monitoring programme are different instructions. Defining the question first avoids replacing a component while leaving a distribution or control problem unresolved.
Repairs, maintenance and projects
Individual defects sit within Reactive Maintenance. Repeated checks and servicing belong in Planned Preventative Maintenance, with asset locations and tasks recorded. Changes to storage, hot-water capacity or distribution can be developed through Building Services Upgrades.
Water-hygiene findings need owners and follow-up alongside the physical work. Completion records should explain what was repaired, what was measured and which actions remain open.
Planning the work
Identify isolation points, areas losing supply, critical users and the time available for interruption. Access to tanks, service ducts and plant rooms can determine the method as much as the failed component. For occupied premises, agree temporary arrangements and the checks needed before returning the affected system to use.
Price and programme depend on pipe routes, working space, system condition, replacement compatibility and making good. Water-hygiene control follows the risks identified for the system; HSE explains the responsibilities for managing legionella risks.
Work across sectors
Education premises need works coordinated with building use and holiday access. Healthcare and care settings require particular attention to vulnerable users, water safety and continuity. Hospitality premises depend on usable kitchens, washrooms and hot water during trading. These examples sit within our full sector range.
Frequently asked questions
Can one instruction cover plumbing repairs and water-hygiene work?
Yes. Identify both requirements so the scope names the physical repair, hygiene tasks, specialist testing and completion records. Each needs a clear purpose and responsible person.
What information helps with a pressure problem?
List affected outlets, when the pressure changes and any recent alterations. Supply pump and storage information where available. A whole-building issue needs a different investigation from one restricted outlet.
Does replacing a fitting close a water-risk assessment action?
The action closes when the required work and evidence address the recorded finding. A replacement alone may leave a monitoring, temperature or system-layout issue outstanding.
Can work be planned around an occupied building?
Yes. Agree affected areas, interruption periods and return-to-use requirements at the planning stage. This gives the site team a clear basis for notifying occupants and arranging alternatives.
