Arrange safe access, isolation information and the contact controlling the supply. Tank location, working space and any need for entry require competent planning. Coordinate alternative water arrangements and notices with the affected users before the outage, including the authority for accepting the system back into operation.

Frequently asked questions
Does every storage tank need annual cleaning?
No universal annual clean should be assumed. Inspection findings, system use and the risk assessment determine the appropriate regime and when remedial cleaning is needed.
Does cleaning the tank also disinfect all downstream pipework?
Only where that wider system is explicitly included in the method and instruction. Define the treatment boundary and verification rather than assuming the whole installation is covered.
Can the building keep using water during the work?
The supply arrangement determines the options. Assess isolation, compartments and any suitable alternative provision before agreeing continuity; do not assume another tank is an interchangeable reserve.
What if defects are found inside or around the tank?
Record their location and effect, then define repair or further assessment. The handover must explain any issue affecting reinstatement and which actions remain after cleaning.
